It’s been a while since I did any talks related to Hugh Macdonald, the Victorian Glasgow journalist whose book I annotated in 2022. Last year seemed full of them, when the new edition had just come out, but this Saturday was the first in a long time, and possibly the last (although I’m still open to invitations).

I was speaking about Rambles Round Glasgow to the AGM of the Glasgow Ramblers, which is very appropriate, isn’t it? And afterwards we went on a six-mile ramble from Govan, across the new Pointy Bridge and along the Kelvin Walkway. There was lots of pretty scenery, hardly any rain, and much good chat about historical stuff.
I think that’s my last speaking engagement of the year, thank goodness. Normally I like to have the odd talk or tour lined up, but as chance would have it, that was one of three in the same week! So I was both glad and exhausted to get to the end of last week.
The other two talks were a mini training session on trafficking to an architecture firm, which was not very nerve wracking at all (and in a building with amazing views of Glasgow from its rooftop) and a podcast for Woman Alive which was a lot more nerve wracking, although in the event, everyone was lovely and it went well.
I’ll share the link for the podcast when I get it. In the meantime, if you’re in Glasgow and want some training on spotting the signs of trafficking, visit Restore Glasgow or if you’d rather hear about a Victorian journalist and rambler, get in touch using the sidebar 👉
